Find out how you work

Take the AQ test to get life-changing insight into how you plan, communicate, and make decisions

(It’s completely free, and most people finish in about 8 minutes.)

Why learn your AQ?

Your AQ shows up in every action you take, every day of your life.

At work, your AQ shapes the messages you send, the plans you make, and the tasks you complete. At home, your AQ plays a role in everything from how well you stick to a budget to how organized you like your closet or your social life.

We often pay attention to what we know and how we feel. The Action Quotient quiz reveals the third piece of the puzzle: the motivations behind how we take action.

In school and at work, the focus is on what you know.

These cognitive abilities include your education, life skills, and professional knowledge.

What you know changes on a daily basis as you learn new information and have new experiences.

At home, you pay more attention to how you feel.

Psychologists call this your ‘affective mind’, and it includes aspects of your personality like core values, emotions, and desires.

How you feel also changes every day – sometimes by the minute!

How you take action applies no matter where you are, what you know, or how you feel.

The ways you take action are your ‘conative abilities’, or AQ.

Your AQ is cemented at an early age, and it informs every aspect of your work, from meetings and peer relationships to how closely you follow a schedule and how likely you are to finish a task.

Ever have an argument about handling clutter or showing up on time? Ever wonder how someone else can be so wrong about how to do household chores, pack a bag, or plan an event? That was your AQ.

Any time you ignore your abilities and needs, it causes stress.

When you don’t have enough knowledge to do your job, you might feel confused or frustrated. When your relationships don’t align with your beliefs and emotional needs, it can make you feel unhappy and unfulfilled.

Working outside of your AQ leads to inevitable conflict and burnout.
(Yes, inevitable.)

When you plan, communicate, and make decisions without considering your AQ, it causes tension and overwhelm. Working that way long-term results in burnout, even if the tasks are doable and you are compensated well.

The good news is that the reverse is true, too! Respecting your AQ unlocks a world of possibilities.

Knowing your AQ brings an empowering sense of clarity and confidence.

When you understand how you work and why, suddenly everything makes sense! You can set informed expectations and choose a professional path that matches your personal version of success.

Just as importantly, knowing your AQ will also help you recognize when someone else’s AQ might be different. That opens up new levels of collaboration, leadership, and growth that can change the trajectory of your career and your relationships.

The AQ test is completely free, and we’ll also provide you with free information to help you understand and use your results.

Action Quotient quiz and results content has been reviewed by a team that includes licensed clinical psychologists and racial justice experts to ensure every AQ is relevant, trauma informed, and accessible to a diverse community.

Please note: If you are a member of the Global Majority or another historically minoritized population, the ways you take action will inevitably be influenced by lived experience that includes discrimination.

The AQ aims to identify your true preferences and needs, but it may take more time to answer the questions without using the protective instincts you’ve had to develop. Please be gentle with yourself. Don’t be afraid to take the quiz multiple times, until you feel the results match your genuine strengths and abilities.

The Action Quotient test is currently available in English, and we are actively working to make content available in additional languages in future. The Español version will be ready by mid-2024.

Our mission is to help as many people as possible understand their AQ and take ownership of their incredible potential.

If you have more questions or want to discuss how to use the Action Quotient test in your organization as a hiring, management, or team-building tool, please fill out the form below. We’d also love to hear about your experience with the AQ and any other languages that would be helpful in our future translation efforts.
